How to track music fans with Meta & TikTok pixels (without writing code)

A hands-on walkthrough for indie musicians running Instagram and TikTok ads: create your pixels, add the IDs in MelodyLane and test before you spend.

Everyone can read this guide. Pre-release campaigns, fan email capture and insights need Pro or Lifetime.

  1. 01

    Create your Meta pixel (dataset)

In Meta Business Settings → Events Manager, click the plus button and choose “Web”, then “Meta Pixel only” if asked. Name it after your artist or the page you will promote.

You only need the pixel once. It collects the traffic from every MelodyLane smart link that uses it, so you do not paste any code into your pages yourself.

  2. 02

Find and copy your Meta pixel ID

In Events Manager, select your pixel and open its Settings tab. The 15–16 digit number is your Pixel ID — copy it exactly, with no spaces.

Not sure where to click? MelodyLane’s interactive pixel guide at /pixel-guide has screenshots for each provider and links straight to the right pages.

  3. 03

    Create your TikTok pixel

In TikTok Ads Manager, go to Tools → Events → Web Events, click “Manage”, then “Create Pixel”. Choose “Manual install” — this is where the pixel ID lives; skip any scripts TikTok offers to paste.

Copy the pixel ID it generates. TikTok pixels and Meta pixels are separate: adding one does not track the other platform.

  4. 04

    Save your IDs in MelodyLane

Go to Dashboard → Settings and find the Master Pixels section. Paste your Meta Pixel ID and TikTok Pixel ID, then save.

Master Pixels are a Pro and Lifetime feature. Every smart link you create afterwards automatically includes them, so you never paste tracking code into individual links. In the builder’s tracking step you can still remove a pixel for one specific link if you ever need to.

  5. 05

    Know what gets tracked

Your pixels record the visits and button taps on your smart links: page views, streaming-service taps and sign-ups. Meta also records a CompleteRegistration event when a fan signs up for your emails.

Ad platforms use these events to build audiences and measure which ads lead to action. A tap is not a confirmed stream or sale, and your MelodyLane Insights numbers come from MelodyLane, not from Meta or TikTok.

  6. 06

    Test before you spend

Before running an ad, open your smart link yourself and watch for the visit in Meta’s Test Events and TikTok’s Event Manager. If nothing appears, check that the pixel ID was saved correctly.

Ad blockers and browser tracking protection can block pixel events for some visitors — including you. If Test Events shows nothing, try a different browser or disable blockers on that page. Pixel data is never complete for every visitor; that is normal.

Give your first campaign a few days of data before judging results. Start with a small daily budget and check which posts and audiences send the most fans.
