How to set up the Meta Conversions API (CAPI) for your music ads

Connect a Meta Conversions API token in MelodyLane so your Instagram and Facebook ads see more of your fan visits, music taps and sign-ups.

Anyone can read this guide. Some steps use features in Pro or Lifetime.

  1. 1

    What the Conversions API does

    • Your Meta Pixel runs in the fan's browser. Ad blockers, iPhone privacy settings and in-app browsers can stop some of those events.
    • The Conversions API sends a private copy of the same event from MelodyLane's server straight to Meta, so fewer fan actions go missing.
    • Meta matches both copies with a shared event ID and counts each action once.

Tip: Better data helps Meta find more fans like the ones already tapping your links, and makes your ad results easier to trust.

  2. 2

    Before you start

    • You need a Meta Pixel ID saved in Dashboard → Settings → Tracking pixels, and a Pro, Studio or Lifetime plan.
    • You need admin access to the pixel (dataset) in Meta Business.
  3. 3

Generate your access token in Meta

    • Open Meta Events Manager and select your pixel.
    • Go to the Settings tab and scroll to Conversions API.
    • Under “Set up direct integration”, click Generate access token and copy it right away.

Watch out: Treat the token like a password. Never post it or send it in a DM. Meta only shows it once — generate a new one if you lose it.

  4. 4

    Paste it into MelodyLane

    • Go to Dashboard → Settings → Tracking pixels.
    • Paste the token into “Meta Conversions API token”, right under your Meta Pixel ID, then click Save token.
    • You'll see “Connected” with the last 4 characters. The full token is stored securely and never shown again or sent to fans' browsers.
  5. 5

    Send a test event

    • In Meta Events Manager, open Test Events and copy the Test Event Code (it starts with TEST).
    • Paste it into the Test Event Code box in MelodyLane, save, then click Send test event.
    • Within a few seconds a “MelodyLane Smart Link Visit” event labeled Server should appear in Meta.

Tip: The test code is only used by the test button. Real fan events always go to your live data.

  6. 6

    What gets sent

    • PageView, MelodyLane Smart Link Visit, ViewContent, MelodyLane Music Click and CompleteRegistration — the same events your pixel sends.
    • Events only send for fans who accept cookies, and your own visits are skipped.
    • MelodyLane sends the details Meta needs for matching: IP address, browser type, Meta's own cookies, the ad-click ID from Meta ads (fbclid) and an anonymous visitor ID.
    • When a fan joins your email list, their email is scrambled (SHA-256 hashed) before it's sent with the sign-up event — Meta can match it, but never sees the plain email from MelodyLane.

Watch out: A tap isn't a stream or sale. Neither MelodyLane nor Meta can promise streams, followers or sales from ads.

  7. 7

Raise your Event Match Quality score

    • In Events Manager → your pixel → Settings, turn on Automatic Advanced Matching (email, phone, name, city and country). Meta then reads matching info fans type into your Smart Link forms.
    • MelodyLane automatically adds the ad-click ID, an anonymous visitor ID and the hashed sign-up email to server events, which all raise your score.
    • Turn on fan email capture on your links: sign-up events with email usually score 8–9+ out of 10. Visit and tap events stay lower because fans haven't shared anything personal — that's normal.

Tip: Meta updates the score over about 48 hours. Around 6/10 is already rated Good for anonymous music page visits.

  8. 8

    Check it's working

    • After publishing, open your link in a private window, accept cookies and tap a service.
    • In Events Manager → Overview, events should show both Browser and Server as sources within about 20 minutes.
    • Want to stop? Click Remove next to the token in MelodyLane.
