What is a smart link?
A smart link is one shareable link that brings together a musician’s song or album on every streaming service where it is available. Instead of sharing a separate address for each platform, the artist shares one page, and each fan picks their preferred service to open the release there.
How it works
- The artist adds the release title, cover artwork and listening links to one page.
- The artist shares that page in posts, a bio or ads. Fans open it and choose from the streaming services the artist has added.
- In MelodyLane, you can edit the artwork or service links later without changing the address you have already shared.
Smart link vs single-platform link vs link-in-bio list
| Link type | Destination | Use |
|---|---|---|
| Smart link | One release page with a choice of streaming services | Sharing a specific song or album |
| Single-platform link | One release on one streaming service | Sharing with fans who use that service |
| Link-in-bio list | A page listing music, socials, merch and other destinations | Letting fans explore the artist’s wider work |
Questions, answered
Is a smart link the same as a Spotify link?
No. A Spotify link points to Spotify. A music smart link gives fans a choice of the streaming services you have added for that release.
Do fans need a MelodyLane account?
No. Fans can open the page and choose a streaming service without a MelodyLane account. The destination service controls its own account and listening requirements.
Can I create a smart link for free?
Yes. MelodyLane’s Free forever plan includes unlimited smart links. See pricing for the features included in each plan.
Does a smart link pre-save my music?
Not by itself. MelodyLane sends fans to the pre-save page you provide; fans sign in with their streaming account and give permission there.
Does a streaming-service tap count as a stream?
No. A tap records a choice of destination, not a confirmed play or royalty.
